However, it is believed the film - adapted from Paulo Coelho's novel of the same name - will be released in the U.S. this year.
But things take a sinister turn when she find out her sibling's life also has a bounty on it.
Although she lives in California with actor husband Freddie Prinze Jnr, Gellar has temporarily relocated to Manhattan for her new TV role.
Gellar and Prinze Jnr had been married for seven years when they became parents, leaving them subjected to pressure from people asking why they hadn't had a baby sooner.
However, Gellar said: 'I always say, the minute you start dating someone, people ask, "When are you getting engaged?"
'And the minute you get engaged, they ask, "When are you getting married?" And then the minute you get married, they ask, "When are you having a baby?"
'Becoming a parent is the most selfless act, and you need to be at a point in your life where you can give up anything and everything for a child.
'I don't know if you know how to do that when you're in your 20s.'
Although Gellar has given few interviews since Charlotte's birth in September 2009, she has described motherhood as amazing.
She gushed: 'Every day I look at her and I am in awe... The minute you have a baby, everyone asks, "When are you going to have another one?"'
