    'nuff said (http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/22/samsung-galaxy-tab-8-9-and-new-galaxy-tab-10-1-thinner-than-the/).

Unfortunately you're so very right. Until it's in the hand and on the shelves it's vaporware.

And, like I've said many a times to everyone that brings this topic up:

Apple will be king until we see some viable apps that people flock to. The iOS environment is just too good.

Spoken from an Android fan here folks.

So to post my top bets for WWDC...

    1) A much clearer roadmap for 64 bit support in Mac OS X. I believe they will outline full 64 bit support across all non-10.4 deprecated frameworks (I believe in the initial release of 10.5). Of course it will also fully support 32 bit applications run side by side with 64 bit applications.

    2) Resolution Independent UI will be ready for main stream use with display products possible with in the next year or two (would love to be surprised with 150-200 DPI or so display of course).

    3) Quartz 2D Extreme will be ready for main stream use along with some good news on the OpenGL front.

    4) Full roll out of the unified user interface look and fell across all frameworks and Apple applications (at least most).

    5) Improved Quartz API to allow for more advanced window styles and effects.

    6) PowerMac replacement with Quad core model... a true workstation class system (likely similar enclosure to what we have now in the PMG5).

    ... gotta go.

Don't understand that there needs to be a pissing contest about Xoom OR ipad.

Why are the Xoom guys even here on a Mac site, to tell us THEIR device is better?

Let's even assume they are right.
Go buy your Xoom and be happy if it does what you want No harm, no foul.

The Apple users buy Apple until something better comes along also as long as it does what they want.
They love the possible integration with their other devices and when that comes to Xoom or something else is better they will switch.

Technology pace is amazingly fast and nobody knows what is next.

Perhaps Xoom owners are on here because we own multiple devices and like all of them. Just because I'm using an Android device doesn't mean that I'm forever barred from reading and posting on a Mac forum.

Reading through the existing 8 pages, most of the Xoom owners aren't saying their device is better; rather, they're (we're) providing comments around what Android can do. To be quite honest, the defensive and snarky comments are coming from those that are not Xoom owners. Really makes me wonder why they are so defensive and strident, you know? Deflection? Insecurity? Projecting?

Yes, I'm being a smartass, no one needs to get their panties in a wad.

I suspect a large amount of the issues are stemming from the problems with the Intel Macs and people are probably calling more about these problems. I could be wrong.

But yesterday did suck. That site went down in an instant. But then again, the Apple recall got a whole lot more news coverage than the Dell recall.

but is still more productive because it handles more calculations per clock cycle

I'm no processor geek. I have a basic understanding of the terminology and how things work so correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this one of the advantages that the PPC had over Intel chips? Does this mean Intel is moving toward shorter pipes? Are we talking more instructions per clock cycle or what? What does "calculations" mean in this context?

Which launched 6 months after the original iPhone...and was displayed in February of 2007 with an entirely different interface.

The point is no one will ever confuse this with Apple's iPhone... But what Samsung is doing now is another story.

If you look at each item that Apple takes exception with individually it seems silly, but when you put them all together in a single device it's a twin to the iPhone... An iClone.

Interesting news, but the bit about booting competitors is downright disgusting.
It's not like they threatened anyone. They likely went to the organizers and said "We'd like to make a really cool announcement at your event but we'd need most of your presentation and sponsorship space to do it." SuperMeet said sure, Apple paid, and here we are. It's not like the other sponsors didn't get their money back (I'm assuming.)

Yeah, I'm sure that's what happened...if they were dealing with the Apple of 5 years ago. But, no, we now see today's Apple in action. The same Apple that stole that hot chick's iAd app idea, the same that "asked" Toyota to remove the Scion ad from Cydia, the same that sent out their own ninja's to search some dude's house for the iPhone 4 prototype, etc.

Isn't it all hormonal mishaps in the womb? Does your God control that? If so, he is predisposing people to sin, and isn't that unfair that not all are exposed to that disposition?
We all have our crosses to bear. Ultimately it is up to the homosexual to sin or not

Heterosexuality is the default way your brain may work. But just because it's like that for you, doesn't mean it's like that for us all.
default: a preselected option adopted by a computer program or other mechanism when no alternative is specified by the user or programmer.
Unless influenced otherwise the brain develops heterosexually

well, if you are going to tell people their posts make them look stupid, perhaps you should consider your own, and read a dictionary before throwing around three syllable words. Your use of the word "eloquent" is incorrect. "eloquent" is not a word that applies to a software operating system.

Eloquent: The quality of artistry and persuasiveness in speech or writing; the practice or art of using language with fluency and aptness; fluent, forcible, elegant or persuasive speaking in public.

As in; "your post was not eloquent".

Really, completely new? As in, to Core 2 what the G5 was to G4? In just two years?? I guess they're really ramping things up... Core 3 Hexa Mac Pros, anyone?

Intel's stated plans as I understand them are thus:

A new micro-arch every 2 years. I don't think they mean brand new so much as "significant changes/improvements". Whether this is akin to Yonah->Conroe or Netburst->Conroe remains to be seen, but more like the former (or perhaps Pentium-M -> Merom -- Core Duo was very much a stop-gap). Little has been released about Nehalem, but at one time it was slated as "based on Banias/Dothan", due in 2005 and expected to ramp to 9/10GHz.

"Off" years will recieve derivative versions (e.g. Merom->Penryn), which appears to be mostly stuff like L2 cache increases, faster FSB speeds (at least while we have FSBs - 2008 looks like the year for DCI, finally), die shrinks, increasing the number of cores (expect at least one to be more cores on a single die instead of two dice/package), etc.

Die shrinks are currently scheduled for "off" years, in order to stablize the process ready for the new micro-arch in the following year so Intel doesn't need to deal with both new process and new arch at the same time, and presumably in part to keep speed increases coming in "off" years

Of course, roadmaps can change quite rapidly -- it's not that long ago that Whitfield was expected to debut late 2006 with DCI (FSB replacement). Whitfield was replaced by Tigerton which is now due sometime in 2007...

One thing's for sure, Intel appears to have learnt a great deal from the Netburst fiasco -- how not to do things, if nothing else. Unfortunately, they still estimate ~50% of processors shipping in 1Q2007 will be netburst-based (mostly Pentium-D).

I'm thinking 17" MBP or MacBook depending on if MBP has the MB removable easy access HD feature.

Reading through this thread you've mentioned that the MBP should have a removable HD on pretty much every page. We get it, you really want a user replaceable HD in a MBP. Mentioning it 100 times won't make it happen, however clicking your shoes together and saying 'there's no place like home' just might

I agree, Samsung has copied Apple.

In fact I'm truly impressed with Samsung's expertise. Their Galaxy S is every bit as nice as my iPhone 4.

In fact after doing the research, I decided to add a line to my family plan so I could try the Android powered phone.

Now I have two great phones. However I must say I'm shocked that I like the Galaxy better than the more diminutive iPhone.

Really? Based on all your previous posts which I glanced through I'd only be surprised if the opposite was true.

There's a lot to be said for a spacious and gorgeous 4.0" Super AMOLED display. I had no idea of the advantages it offers.

Then there's a huge advantage with SWYPE. Instead of hammering on a hard glass keyboard when messaging, Swype allows you to glide one finger across the keys to form words. It's the single greatest advancement in touchscreen input technology to date.

Swype submitted their app to Apple nearly a year ago, but it was rejected.

One can only guess, its excellent, trouble free and easy operation triggered Steve's jealousy.

Yet it's important that we give credit to Apple for insisting on a old school slow yet familiar keyboard. I must admit it took me ten minutes of watching the tutorial, and fifteen minutes more to adapt.

That said it quickly has become my favorite.

I really wish Apple would overcome their fear of including it on the iPhone. My Galaxy S gives me the choice of two other keyboards on case I didn't like Swype. Apple could do the same.

I really like Apple, I have many of their products.

Just think of how much greater they could be, if not for their closed minded ways towards anything outside of their comfort zone.

Why is the iPhone's implementation slow?

    http://www.macrumors.com/2010/08/24/fastest-texting-in-the-world-actually-on-an-iphone/

EDIT: Not that I think that Apple shouldn't open up more and allow things like Swype; they should.

No, it was shown at IFA 2006 for the first time but "officially presented" a few months later.

It wasn't shown; it was announced. Get your facts right.

ANd you design hardware in a couple of weeks?

Doesnt really matter LG prada wich has simular concept and specs was designed AND shown over a month before iphone was ever shown.

    LG can see the future?

Apple copies, samsung copies, LG copies,... everybody does it only only always wants to make believe everyone copies from them.

No. I don't think that's possible; but samsung didn't ship it until later. So, that could have been a testing unit meant for a future release. Samsung had touch screen plans but could have easily ripped off the design. No big deal there.

Looks like they are going for another Snow Leopard (aka disappointingly small) release.

Not sure about what everyone else wants out of the OS, but I certainly don't want ANY of the iOS style features they have announced. I can see launchpad becoming another unused feature (I'm looking at you dashboard!) that people forget about.

I guess we'll know just how committed Apple are to the Mac after this. We already know they couldn't give a damn about the hardware side of the business any more. The final stab in the back would be XCode for windows.

I really do fear that within 3-5 years Apple will have a tiny mac lineup with all focus on iOS. No more yearly OS updates, no more updates to iLife, etc. They make peanuts from it compared to the iOS income.

All that BeOS had was separate threads per window at the UI level. This does nothing for parallelizing compute tasks. These extra thread that BeOS had spent most of their time doing absolutely nothing.

Whilst true in that regard, BeOS also had threads for event queues too if you used BLooper, which could also be overused.

I think the threaded-ness just gave everyone the impression it was fast and not waiting on anything to a large extent rather than it actually being fast. Most of the speed just came from it being very lightweight and the apps written for it being written by good programers that knew how the thread.

I'm sure they will still be shipping since they support the current Final Cut Studio 3 reeaallllyyy well. Lets face it the thing thats coming out will not support the old Plug-ins or workflows and will not be the replacement for FCP that everyone was expecting.

I find this line of "reasoning" fascinating.

If Apple was really intent of "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" and totally re-defining the way FCP works then why, pray tell, are they bothering to (presumably) announce the new FCP to industry and film editing heavyweights?

That seems rather daft - if Apple is no longer catering to them, why announce to them?

How can Apple simultaneously be a marketing genius (it is the only reason people buy iPods, iPhones and iPads after all!) and stupid enough to target people they are getting ready to diss?

I'll have the popcorn ready for tomorrow as well as my running shoes so I can sidestep all the backpedaling that will be happening

I pointed out the Grid layout many times in the other thread and was told that wasn't part of the lawsuit. If it is than Apple isn't just stretching... they are being idiotic.

According to the analysis, it is in the suit, as part of the trade dress claims.

Appleinsider is saying that it can be used for both at your choice, but you have to go buy it and put it in. Not a add on to ordering.

Odd, you think Apple would at least give you the option at the online Store, just as they do with 2 displays... But, perhaps one optival drive will indeed come standard, and the other will be available for whatever the person wants.

Or perhaps there will not be 2 optical drives to begin with. :o ;)
